Collins Bible Handbook
Published in Hardcover by HarperCollins (April, 1989)
Average review score:

Collins Bible Handbook is an excellent tool for teaching! The Collins Bible Handbook is a wonderful way to introduce each book of the Bible. With summary text, pictures, and scripture, one open page gives the student a quick and precise over view of that Book. I first used it in 1990 while teaching an Old Testament class of 10th graders, and I still find the book valuable now that I am teaching middle school students.

Color Atlas of Veterinary Anatomy: The Horse
Published in Paperback by Gower Medical Pub (April, 1996)
Average review score:

Incredible in detail, a must have. When I first sat down with this book, I could not stop looking at the incredible detail of the photos. I am a farrier and needed detailed images of the workings of the legs. This is way more than I could have hoped for. Layer by layer the horse is dissected with each vein, tendon, ligament and muscle painstakingly pointed out, the photographs are perfect with excellent color, and hand drawn diagrams accompany each image with each item labeled in latin. This book is absolutely invaluable.

Come Walk With Me
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Nelson (December, 1993)
Average review score:

Great ReadingThis book was lent to me by a friend who is a physician herself from Harvard Medical School. Anyone interested in neurosurgery as well as general surgery, infectious diseases and preventive medicine would find this book engaging. I recommend this book to anyone who would like to become a physician or who is a physician--it is inspiring and causes one to think about medicine in a whole new light. Once I started reading it, I didn't want to put it down.

Commentaries on the Laws of England (Vol. 4)
Published in Paperback by University of Chicago Press (Trd) (November, 1979)
Average review score:

Necessary to grasp the ConstitutionEvery American lawyer ought to read Blackstone.
Not that the law he contains is still reliable, although much of it is. But for the big picture, the history of the development of the English common law, he remains an indispensible source.
The American founding fathers grew up with this stuff, and these four volumes were indispensible for a Colonial gentleman's education. In viewing them, you will gain a new understanding of the meaning of the Constitution of the United States. As Blackstone develops the law, he sets it against the backdrop of the British struggle against arbitrary rule by the King, the seventeenth century wars of religious fanaticism, and England's long battle to win free from the power of the papacy. To read Blackstone is to learn what the founding fathers thought and feared, and what they wrote the Constitution to guard against.

A Community of Character
Published in Paperback by Univ of Notre Dame Pr (February, 1988)
Average review score:

Incredibly provocativeThis was the first book of Prof. Hauerwas's that I read, and it remains my favorite. It's been over a year since I read it, so many of the details of it are fuzzy in my mind. Nonetheless, I do remember being particularly struck by his statements about marriage, abortion, and the role of the church. Not to mention a lengthy first chapter almost entirely devoted to looking at how "scripture" functions in Richard Adams' _Watership Down_. If you've not read Hauerwas yet, repent, and buy this one. If you've read his other books, still buy this one.
